About Me

Isaac Hughes

Ko Marotori te maunga, Ko Kaiawha te awa, Ko Ngati Pākeha te iwi. Tātou Tātou.

I grew up in Ruatōrea, Waipiro Bay and Tokomaru Bay. I moved to Gisborne in 2012 to complete a Bachelor of Business Studies (Accounting) at EIT Tairāwhiti, graduating in 2015. This year I received my Chartered Accountant designation. During this time I have worked in a number of accountancy related roles in the Tairāwhiti region.

My skills include:

  • Financial experience (accounting/audit roles for past 8 years, currently audit senior at BDO Gisborne)

  • Governance experience (Gisborne District Youth Council Chairperson 2014/15, current Swim For Life Tairāwhiti Chairperson, various Treasurer roles current and past)

  • Community and leadership experience (Poverty Bay Rugby Referee, Gisborne Indoor Football founder, HSOB Presidents Cricket Captain,  EIT Valedictorian)

  • Te Reo Māori me ōna tikanga

Through spending my formative years on the East Coast and moving to Gisborne later in life, I have gained a unique perspective. I grew up surrounded by Te Reo speakers and a vibrant Māori community.

A Councillor is a representative of their electors. I would love to hear your ideas or concerns.

This will be my core principle if elected. Every decision made and vote cast will be communicated. It is important you are aware of decisions made on your behalf.

Kia Whaihua

The Council is a vehicle, a means to an end. Rates are paid to receive core services, it is vital these services are prioritised and provided efficiently.

Kia Toitū

Our natural environment is a key selling point in this region for both residents and tourists. We should ensure this environment is protected and nurtured for future enjoyment.
